IC: Savage Worlds

Postby DM Unliving » Wed Oct 05, 2016 6:23 pm

Would anyone be interested in playing in a Savage Worlds game?

I have several settings for Savage Worlds -

Weird Wars: Rome
Weird Wars: Weird War I
Weird Wars: Weird War II
The Savage World of Solomon Kane
Rifts
Rippers
Necessary Evil
Achtung! Cthulhu
Accursed
Hellfrost
Necropolis 2350

So, anyone interested?

I am keen on gaining more experience with Savage Worlds. I like what I have learned so far about the system and its flexibility.

I am not sure about settings, as some of those are rather hit or miss on the genre interest, but much of that is out of ignorance rather than truly informed opinions.

Savage Worlds is a very flexible system. It handles any genres of play. Most settings add some additional frameworks, hindrances, and edges.

The Weird War settings are all based in real world settings (the two world wars, and during the Roman Empire). The big difference is eventually the PCs come across the supernatural that no one knew was real. In WW2 the Nazis use things like blood mages, werewolves, and haunted tanks for example. WW1 things get awakened due to the violence of the war. In Rome it can become a generational game.

Necessary Evil is in the modern world where aliens invaded and killed off all the super heroes, ow the only ones left to save the world are super villains (the PCs).

I love the idea of the Necessary Evil setting! That sounds great, really fun. It would be a blast to play baddies having to step up because the entire world is threatened.

Oooo, I can see Necessary Evil having some appeal. Herzog would like that too. I wonder if Alexandra would work in that setting.

You rang? Yeah, Necessary evil sounds interesting.

Never played Savage Worlds either. It would be nice to get that ruleset under my belt to boot.

It is not hard to learn. Reminds me of a cross between The Window and d20.

Having recently taught newbies through PF in face to face, I really appreciate that SW would have been much easier.

If people are interested in a Necessary Evil game I can work one up. What level do people want to start at (Novice, Seasoned, Veteran, Heroic, Legendary)? For people new to the system I would suggest Novice.

Yes, I would agree to starting at Novice. Savage Worlds characters are not as fragile at d20 starting characters.

Novice sounds just fine to me. So the idea is that we were relatively low-powered lackey types or street level villains before the aliens came? I have an idea in mind...

I am fine with Novice now that i understand what it means in Savage Worlds.

Question, how "dark" are we taking this setting? Trying to figure out a character concept, but knowing this might help figure it out. Basically, are we going Frank Miller's Batman or more like Dark Knight? Maybe more like The Boys Vs something more common in DC/Marvel.

Other than tossing out possibly resurrecting Alexandra Danislava, I have not even thought about character concepts yet. With holiday weekend and some busy time at work this week, I might be slow.

Also lots going on in various PvP games that need taken care of too.

I don't see the game as being dark. That being said the PCs are, or were, the Super Villains of the world - even if low level players in it.

I can either just start with the originally campaign for Necessary Evil in Star City. Or, we can run Necessary Evil Breakout. Breakout is a prequel to the original story and is where the PCs are trapped in New York (which is basically a prison). Once that is done we can continue on to the originally campaign. What is everyone's thoughts?

Prequel sounds okay. I have not had any exposure to the setting, so starting at the beginning feels right.

Prequel is fine by me, or not. Shrug.

Ok, still pondering character concept.

Some concepts on the table...pulling Visara forward from WERE...personality wise at least. Would probably be martial type of character, though not sure how the half-dragon concept would translate well.
A more mature/evil version of Maya...with phasing powers from namesake character from Borderlands
Retread Evelina - Blood magic elder vampire - have to figure out reasons she would be Novice experience tho
Dread Witch from the old Dread Isle game. Or maybe the witch from Wicked.
Time Lord? Ala Dr Who...maybe has his memory scrambled
