Rian’s pupil shrunk as the light hit it, like normal pupils do. The sclera was white and the iris brown, like normal. He turned his head and reached up to gently push the hand that held the light aside.
“Please do not shine that light in our eyes,” he said.
He looked at Jaden.
“We also do not consent to a blood test. We are not going to be a lab experiment ever again.”
His tone firmed.
“Nothing is wrong with us. We are changed, yes. But we have not been possessed. We are not an infection. You wish to know what happened to us. We have been attempting to explain, and we will explain further, if you will all listen.”
He looked around at each sibling, turning from Caitlin’s tear-stained face to Delvin’s set mask and unreadable eyes. For his part, Jaden looked worried. Rian’s face was intent, his eyes unblinking.
“We are asking you to listen, so that you understand what happened to us. Will you do this?”
