Hell has come to Earth (Esimae Only)

Postby Herzog » Sat Sep 12, 2015 11:43 am

Hell has come to Earth, literally. Some how, some way, portals to Hell have opened up around the world and the demon hordes are spilling through. Who are you, where are you at when the portals open, and what do you do ?

Esimae Brayman was driving her mini-van along the highway during midday. She was going to run some errands while her two kids were in school. The stretch of road was straight, with fields lining either side as she was heading from home towards the small town in America she resided. It was typically light traffic in rural Iowa.

Then everything went crazy with a dark portal swirling open above the road several yards ahead. It was large enough to block the road and the rid pick-up truck in front of her swerved and skidded into the ditch as a red-skinned, winged creature flew out. The hellish demon was at least 10 feet tall with a wingspan double that. It had bull-like horns and serpentine tail.

She slammed on the brakes and watched with a set jaw. Esimae muttered, “Not again.”

The large flying demon landed on the road in front of the mini-van as you bring it to a stop. It stood upright at it's full 10 foot and folded it's wings. The goat slit eyes on it's face peered into your soul. It flexed it's hands and it's tail swished back and forth.

Then with a roar, it slammed it's fist into the hood of the mini-van, crumpling it. You scramble to undo the seat belt, and manage to escape the car before a clawed hand smashed through the windshield. It's too bad that the van just had been paid off.

With reflexes born with years of training, you are able to dodge the strikes and slashes as the demon pursued you around the car.

"Foolish Mortal! Hell has come to earth! And I will dine on your soul!"

Esimae was just thinking that she really needed to spend more time with weapons practice. There just had not been a call for it since her semi-retirement to become a soccer mom. At least she was still working out taking exercise classes and Taebo.

But the demon was not going to be impressed with her punches and kicks. He was too big and mean.

After a couple of turns around her demolished mini-van playing ‘ring around the rosy’, she paused long enough to grab the flare from the door of the car as she sung it wide into the big ugly’s path. The demon ripped the door off the hinge and flung it aside like a Frisbee. It sailed into the field.

Esimae used that pause to light off the flare and direct the sparking fireworks into his face. “Eat this, asshole!” With the demon momentarily blinded, she turned and ran towards the red pickup truck. She needed to get home and get her gear.

The good ole boy driver had exited the vehicle with his shotgun. He was standing there in the road looking like he was steeling himself to give the demon both barrels as he came around the mini-van to stalk after the fleeing woman.

Esimae ran past the farmer to the open door on the driver’s side of the pickup. The truck was still running, undamaged from its skidded stop.

The demon recovered from flare in his face, the burn's already beginning to scab over and heal. It seems the demon had some natural regeneration. It was pissed and roared as it came around the mini-van. Right into the line of the fire of the farmer.

"Stand and deliver!" shouted the farmer as he gave the demon both barrels. The double shotgun blast was deafening, and the farmer was smart enough to not stick around to see the effects. He whipped around and back towards his truck. There was an angry roar from the demon, indicating that the shotgun succeeded in pissing it off more.

Seeing you already in the driver's seat, the farmer opened the door of the passenger side. "Lady! Drive!" he yelled as he dove in with shotgun in hand.

In the rear view mirror, you can see the demon recovered from the duel blasts. It's chest oozed ichor only from a couple of places. Most of the buckshot must have failed to penetrate the tough hide of the demon. It began running after the truck as you hit the gas pedal and accelerated away.

Esimae had floored it while getting the pickup back on the asphalt from the shoulder, quickly picking up speed. But the demon was not going to give up and she needed more time to get her shit together at the house.

She turned to the farmer beside her. Her voice no longer had the mid-western neutral accent she had practiced for years as she spoke. "Can you reload that weapon and be ready to give the bastard both barrels one more time?" Her question was calm, almost like she was asking her companion for tea if he wanted two lumps of sugar or three. The accent was strangely exotic, perhaps old European or something the farmer had never heard before.

After he fumbled around in the glove box and reloaded the shotgun, Esimae asked, "Once you are ready, let me know." She was continually glancing up in the rear view to track their progress of slowly out pacing the demon.

The farmer grunted in acknowledgement as he loaded his shotgun.

In the rear view mirror, you see the demon in hot pursuit. For its size, the demon had speed. It loped along the road after you. The truck was not exactly a late model and took time to accelerate allowing the hellish creature to stay in sight.

The farmer finished his fumbling around and cocked the hammer’s on the double barreled shotgun.

“Alright lady! Ol’Besie is ready to give both barrels!”

The good old boy turned in his seat and opened up the back cab window. He stuck the barrel of his weapon out and waited for your word.

"Alright, don't be alarmed," Esimae started explaining while glancing into the rear view mirror to keep tabs on the creature chasing after.

"I am going to stop and you give it both barrels in the chest and face. Then I will back it over with your truck to put it out of action. Reload as fast as you can after that, because if we get it trapped under your truck, two more blasts to the head should take the demon out permanently."

"They are tough, but not invincible."

She slowed the pickup and pushed in the clutch. One foot on the clutch, the other on the brake, Esimae shifted into reverse and slowed all the way to a stop. She turned halfway around to look out the rear window, waiting.

The demon came on and she calmly said, "Now."

With the boom of the shotgun, Esimae hit the gas and the wheels spun a second as the torque overpowered traction. Then they were barreling backwards into the demon.

The deceleration of the truck allowed the chasing demon to catch up. It roared in victory as it saw your truck slow to a stop. It took less than a minute before it reached the tailgate. Just as it laid it's hands on the truck to vault into the bed, you give the word.

BOOOOMMMM!

The shotgun roared as the farmer gave the demon both barrels. The distance from the cab window to the tail gate was short. Coupled with buckshot, it was hard to miss the demon's head.

"Yay!" yelled the farmer as the resulting double barreled shotgun blasts snapped the demon backwards. Hitting the gas, of the truck accelerated and slammed into the demon, knocking it off it's feet. The farmer was pushed back into the cab by the momentum where he busily scrambled to reload the shotgun. Both of you are jostled up and down as the truck rolls over the demon.

Backing away a dozen yards, you see the resulting mess of the demon. It's face and head are unrecognizable. One of it's arms is bent at the wrong angle from being crushed underneath the truck, and it looked like it's chest caved in as well. It twitched, but it's hard to tell if it was death throes or it was struggling to regenerate.

Esimae hit the brakes again and slammed the pickup trucks transmission back into first gear. She popped the clutch as she stomped the accelerator again. The tires were a little slick, maybe from some of the greasy blood of demons, but still grabbed and the truck roared forwards and she ran over the downed creature again.

Her face had that determined look of a woman that was all business as she concentrated on her task. After stopping again with the demon behind them, she turned to the farmer as he was finally making progress reloading the shotgun. Her running over the demon and accelerating back and forth had jostled him around, but stopped he could complete the task.

Esimae asked nonchalantly like she was just making conversation, “Can I borrow Ol’ Besie, please? And do you happen to have a big hunting knife by chance?”

The farmer was breathing heavy with adrenaline as he finally reloaded and settled back in his seat. He looked in the window and say that the demon was mostly still after being run over again. He then glanced back at you questioning.

"Lady..." the farmer started, but couldn't continue.

Shaking his head, he nodded about the question of the knife.

"I got one in the toolbox in the bed."

He handed the shotgun over almost unwillingly. However, your levelheadedness calmed and reassured him. With weapon in hand, you both exit the cab of the truck. The farmer immediately goes to the toolbox, and opens it. He pulls out an old foot log knife in a leather sheath and slides it over to you.

Esimae had the shotgun gripped in her right hand, holding where the trigger guard was. The grip made it capable to fire it one-handed if she was strong enough to aim it like a pistol. She was in good shape and had a wiry strength, but she was no Schwarzenegger. However she could still carry it just fine and took the sheathed knife in her left as they walked towards the rear of the pick-up truck.

She looked down at the twitching demon. It was really messed up, but not dead... yet. She remarked, "These things are really resistant to mundane weapons unless you have a priest bless the blade or ammunition. But they are still able to be killed if you do enough damage to one."

Esimae stuck the sheath of the knife into her waistband to be able to use both hands on the shotgun. "You are a hunter, yes? This is going to be bloody work, but no different."

She aimed the shotgun at the demon's neck and pulled the trigger for one barrel at a range of 2 feet. Not quite finishing the job of decapitating it, she took aim again to blast away more of the flesh. She handed the shotgun over to the farmer.

She unsheathed the knife and bent over the bloody mess of the demon's neck and used the sharp blade to finish the job of severing the spine. It was not hard as the two shotgun blasts had done most of the work already.

With the head severed, Esimae took hold of a protruding horn to drag the heavy thing away from the rest of the corpse to the ditch. She glanced up at the farmer with a rueful expression while dragged, "You didn't want to take it home to mount in your living room did you?"

It was a rhetorical question and she did not expect an answer from the farmer's queer expression at her behavior. She wiped the black blood from the knife using the grass at the side of the road.

"Do you mind if I keep driving? I need to go home."

The farmer watched you finish up and decapitate the demon with a grim faced eyes and expression. His mind was questioning his faith and he said very little. No one disturbed the pair of you as you finished off the demon.

He only looked up and met your eyes at the question of the head.

"Eh, no thanks."

"Go right ahead, miss. You seem to know what you are doing. I am having a bit of a crisis of faith."

The farmer got into the passenger seat and reloaded his shotgun...just in case.

Esimae nodded approval as the farmer realized that reloading his shotgun top priority. Climbing in to the driver’s seat she set the large knife on the dashboard to keep within reach.

She stomped on the gas after slamming the truck into gear again, shutting the door as the vehicle took off down the road.

“I cannot tell you how God fits into all of this, but that demon was from a circle of hell. They are tough and really CAN suck your soul from your corpse. That means the eternity of your afterlife spent as a slave in hell.”

“I am Esimae Brayman, by the way,” she added in calm conversational tone as the pickup was racing down the road getting close to 90-100 mph.

Esimae was a determined woman and needed to get home and get her weapons. She sure as shit was not going to pick up her kids from school without being armed for demon slaying.

She stomped the brakes to skid into a turn off Route 101 to take Oak Street that lead to the housing development of her neighborhood. She looked over at the farmer clutching the dash and seat back to keep from sliding across the cab of the truck into her. “What is your name?”

I am happy to continue for a few more posts at least. I have some ideas on what my character would do yet. That should sustain some reaction posts for the short term.

I could see this developing into a game if you are up for it.

"Pritchard. Alan Pritchard." replied the farmer when asked his name.

The farmer braced himself as you take the turn off route 101. The truck handled the turn like a boat, but stayed on the road, and avoided the street sign on the corner. It's engine roared in protest as it had to down shift and then up shift again. It's was not used to such driving.

"As for God. Never been a regular church attendee, but that sight can back there can quickly make one a believer. I appreciate not having my soul sucked out."

Pritchard was quiet.

On Oak Street, you can't maintain the speed from before. There are cars about as people are going against the authorities recommendations of staying at home. People are in a panic and beginning to bug out.

Before long, you do see the twin brick pillars and the sign Oak River that is the entrance to your subdivision. Though one of the pillars seems to have been taken out by a car or truck.
