Grp A: Wreck Ashore [IC]

Postby PMiller » Mon Nov 28, 2011 4:12 am

The next morning you finish breaking your fast and gather in front of the Adventurer's Guild Tavern to complete your preparations. A groomsman brings around Sister Sarah at your request. The day promises to be typical for this time of year, warm and partly cloudy.

When they hit the open road Xan takes up the rear of the column occasionally struggling to keep the mule in line.

Raddick stands around with Fido, adorned in his new studded leather barding and saddlebag, waits for the rest of his companions to show they are ready to depart. Fido doesn't look happy at the new chaffing he is to endure and a moan-like chuff and groan falls on his master's deaf ears.

"Hey, Xan. I have a way with animals, except when they decide to not listen in favor of protecting fair maidens, that is. Let me talk to your Sister there."

Before leaving Callenburg, Raddick spends some time getting to know the mule and laying down the law on her responsibilities. Until they reach danger, she should be mindful of her instructions to follow the monk's lead without any stubbornness.

"Okay, then. I think I should bring up the front line of the main group, alongside the cleric. I can instruct Fido to guard you, Mantis, or you Slyph. Depends on you two."

"If the bugman is going to range ahead a bit as a scout, Fido can help with his nose. If not, then I will have him protect the whisper gnome for safety's sake. "
He pats the dog on the head affectionately as Fido looks up at his master while Raddick mentioned the dog's name.

OOC: With Xan at P-15, Sarah at P13/Q14 (off the map BTW. :? ) I figure Raddick would be at P17 to allow space in between if necessary.

"I'm not riding Mantis into danger, so if he scouts I'll stay behind to guard the mule. Fido can scout too; I'll be fine."

T'sarich nods his approval at Raddicks suggestion as he's already beside him. He leans down and pats Fido on the flank.

"I will scout a bit ahead if no one objects. I'm quick enough to get back to the group if something happens while I'm ahead.", Mantis offers. Mantis will walk ahead, at least most of the time.

As they walk, T'sarich takes in the day. The air is warm and the clouds billow up into the sky, white and with no promise of rain. The birds sing off in hidden sanctuaries and the breeze carries with it the scent of the earth. The cleric breathes deeply and appreciates the quiet while they have it.

He shifts the pack on his back and contemplates hiring on a porter at their next destination. He had heard they cost very little and it would just be less wear and tear on his body as they traveled. Sister Sarah was great, but he had better comunication skills with sentient beings who could speak.

Raddick nods, "Okay. Fido, guard him." He instructs the dog to guard Mantis and he complies, sticking to the bugman's side while he leads the group down the road and out the gate.

Once they clear the town gates, the fighter puts his shield away and unlimbers his longbow.

"Well, given the wide open of the outdoors, I think carrying my longbow is best."

Mantis glances down at the dog as it trots up beside him assuming its 'guard' position. He agrees with Riddick about the reading a bow away from town. As soon as they clear the gates he takes his own bow and readies it.

The cleric goes with the flow and loads a bolt into his finely crafted, light crossbow. He's careful not to point it at anyone, being cocked and ready to fire, unlike the bows.

Xan keeps his crossbow in one hand and guides Sister Sarah with the other. His sandals make quiet flip flop sounds as he was down the trail.

After a long morning that stretched until early afternoon, you trudge down the road at the pace of your two slowest members, the ones wearing heavy platemail armor. The weather holds as you follow the road through the gently rolling hills and lightly forested terrain. The lunch break was welcome, but some feel it was too short, not having traveled like this since a few of you had to travel to Barrow's Edge.

The afternoon is much like the morning, except you passed a pair of merchant wagons heading towards Callenburg, escorted by a trio of human caravan guards. You exchanged cautious pleasantries and continued along in your separate directions.

At one point, about an hour before it is time to stop for the night, T'sarich's keen elven eyesight spotted something in the distance above a copse of trees off to the East. He thought he saw a winged creature, its black silhouette on the horizon barely discernible to be a four-legged creature with a long neck. It disappeared from view, but not before the rest of you caught enough of a glimpse to verify that the cleric did indeed see something.

Seeing the creature Xan's eyes widen at the thought of what it could be. Slyph had the same idea evidently. "It could be, for one does not get rid of a dragon so easily."
