Narissa only heard part of the conversation and laughed. “Ha, a small penis! I know not what he said, Gweyn, but that is good. Put the bastard in his place.”

She spoke aloud because she had no reason not to; the spell allowing her to hear and be heard by Gweyn working fine whether she whispered or talked normally.

After hearing the second part, she stopped laughing and asked in a nearly sub-vocalized whisper, “What about our guest up here? Are we taking him with to the citadel now?”

Visara smirked at well at the comment. It was always nice to degrade men rather it be in combat or in mere word play.

But at the second part of the conversation, the red head looked over to Narissa. She had the right of it. How would they take an unwilling artist to the citadel. Visara didn't think she would go willing once she discovered the destination.

"If we're not going to meet with these guards of the marshal's, then we should regroup some where else before they get any bright ideas."

The red head glanced over at the disguised artist, checking his reaction.

The officer glared at Gweyn for one heartbeat… then another…

It also looked like Corporal Grogan was going to break into a snicker, and was holding in suppressed laughter.

The officer chose to ignore the jab at his manhood, probably thinking better about trying to tangle with the woman’s reputation. His tone was cold as he replied curtly, “So be it. I shall so inform the Field Marshal.”

He turned around gestured for the others to start walking back the way they came. Grogan must have been unable to contain himself and muttered something that earned him a cuff upside the head from the other officer.

From the window above, the four guardsmen were seen leaving the tavern and heading back towards the citadel.

Gweyn had stared impassively back at the officer until he finally broke eye contact. Then she had watched them go until they disappeared. She allowed herself a small smile then, faint and amused.

“I am coming up now,” she murmured to her sisters.

She turned and climbed the stairs, then knocked at the door and stepped inside when they let her in.

“At least he knew his place,” Gweyn said, with a shrug. Better a man be quiet and meek, seen without being heard. Unlike Narissa, Gweyn felt no real need to dominate men or make them cry. She thought the less she dealt with them, the better, with very few exceptions.

She shrugged.

“Well, let us leave this place and return to where we were,” she said. “If we need to speak to the marshal, we need to go in person, so we should discuss what we should do with our esteemed guest while we are gone.”

Narissa had seen the foursome depart while hearing Gweyn return up the stairs to the little room on the second floor.

She kept watch until they were lost from sight. She reported, "I do not see them pausing to set up a watch on this tavern. So we should be able to slip out without them seeing the rest of us. We could move now, in case they are thinking to double back around... or not."

She sat on the window sill with her arms crossed and kept a watch out the window with frequent glances. Since the spell of whispering was still active, she murmured under her breath.

"Sister, this might be dragging on long enough. Kroft is too busy to answer our summons, and we are stuck holding the package with the mob continues to run around looking for the artist. This guy," Narissa jerked her head aside towards the disguised artist, "is nobody they recognize. So we can just take him to talk with Kroft and be done with it."

"What's the alternative? Keep him around?" The half-fiend did not look happy about that idea.

Visara was still at her place by the door to the room. She had let her sister in and listened as they had a quick discussion on what to do next. The red head also kept her eye on the disguised artist.

Narissa’s mention of the mob brought thoughts of tangling with those Hellknights. It would be an interesting battle, something the half-dragon would enjoy. It was counterproductive to the sisterhoods goals however.

After a seconds thought, Visara murmured, “Aye, perhaps we should take him to Kroft and wash our hands of it. I am not keen on babysitting either.”

Gweyn sighed, nodding.

She turned away from the disguised Trinia so the artist could not read her lips, if she even had the ability to do so. Gweyn doubted it, but it never hurt to be careful.

She murmured to her sisters.

“If you wish it, then that is what we can do. I would prefer not to, but I understand that she is burdensome and would be extra trouble were we to keep her around. I feel that the matter will quickly escalate out of Kroft’s hands and ability to control, so turning the artist over will surely mean her death. However, saving her life is not our problem or our business, I know.”

Gweyn shrugged helplessly; her sisters had been kind enough to indulge her with the matter of the pseudrodragon, but she imagined their patience for such things would only extend so long before their tolerance wore thin.

“My relationship with both of you is more important to me than this silly girl. Let us be rid of her, then, Sisters.”

The disguised artist was suspecting something was up as the conversation around her was consisting of the three sisters all looking at each other. She had heard about the message spell and could put two and two together to make four.

“Are we going to meet this friend of yours? You did say you could help me.”

Narissa nodded with a wry smile, “Oh yes, we shall take you to meet someone. Unfortunately, they are a bit busy and would not some here to the tavern. So we go to see her instead.”

The half-fiendish woman had an evil smirk as she continued wither her spin on the truth, “We are going to take you into the lion’s den and give you a chance to tell your side of the story. Don’t you worry, we shall be with you. Just pretend to be your cousin or something to keep your identity a secret.”

She straightened from her perch at the window, satisfied she still did not see any of the Guard doubling back into the alley.

Narissa gave a head nod towards the door, indicating she was ready. She was prepared to take the artist’s arm if necessary.

Visara grunted in satisfaction as the course of action had been decided. They would take the artist to Kroft and be done with it.

Pushing herself off the wall, the red head brushed her hair out of her face.

“Alright, let’s go.”

The half-dragon cracked the door and peered out, before opening it fully. It was a cautious gesture, more out of habit then anything. Visara glanced back at her sisters and the disguised artist before heading out into the hallway. With the others behind her, the group was soon out the back door of the inn and once more in the streets.

“Lead the way,” Visara said to Gweyn or Narissa. “I’ll watch our backs.”

Gweyn strode forward, saying nothing. Her face was set, her gaze remote. She walked quickly enough to set a fast pace, even for Visara, who had the longest legs of all of them. Gweyn didn’t want to encourage conversation. She simply wanted to go and be done with this.

Misgiving lay heavy in her gut. If it were her alone, she would have done something else, but she’d heard the impatience in Narissa’s voice. To her sister, this was foolishness, and Gweyn couldn’t blame her for thinking that. Not really. They had many more important matters to attend to. Still. She did not think Kroft had as much influence as she thought she did - or perhaps it was more at, Kroft knew precisely how much influence she had, but she did not understand the full scope of the conspiracy that stood against her.

Not that Gweyn did, but she suspected.

Gweyn tucked her arms close to her body, and pushed forward, artist in tow and sisters close.

Narissa nodded curtly as they were off and in silent agreement. The faster pace was good, as she did not want the artist balking from too much time to think and reconsider as they got close. The last thing she really wanted to do was have to club the artist on her head to keep her from doing something stupid.

She certainly did not want the artist getting all panicky and running off with their magic hat.

With Visara bringing up the rear, Narissa walked immediately in front of Trinia to have her sandwiched between them as they followed Gweyn. She was ready to frog-march the reluctant artist if necessary.

Trinia appeared to be acquiescent, but there was some apprehension on her disguised face. It had not been lost upon her about the change in plans and the attitudes coming from some of the sisters.

Reluctantly she said, “Okay, I will pretend to be my male cousin. Hey! I said I am coming.” She objected to be handled and ushered a little roughly. But she did not try to get away as the pace increased once outside the inn.

Upon seeing your course set for the Citadel, Trinia was not exactly surprised, yet her steps slowed involuntarily. Narissa had warned her so she did not resist much when Visara and Narissa got her moving again.

The guards on duty at the gate looked unusually agitated and nervous. Something obviously had them on edge. The obvious explanation of a the mob seeking the artist did not appear to be the cause. Since leaving the Broken Duck Inn, the sisters had not heard any sounds of the mob rampaging around Midland.

The guards appeared to recognize the sisters.

Gweyn slowed her steps as they approached the guard, frowning now. She glanced at her sisters, meeting their eyes briefly. Then she took the lead and stepped forward.

“You know us, yes?” she asked, in a low tone.

She studied the fellows, trying to tell if she recognized them or not. Something was wrong, something above and beyond the riot, or this business with trying to find a scapegoat for the death of the king.

“What is wrong? Has something happened?”

Gweyn paused.

“We are here to see the marshal, but if the time is not opportune…”

She let her sentence trail off to see what they would say.

Visara could sense the tension as well in the Citadal guards. With no mob in sight, something was definitely off. The half-dragon checked her weapons out of habit and glanced at her sisters.

"Perhaps the Marshal has an unwanted visitor..." she murmured only loud enough for Narissa and Gweyn to hear.

It was possible that some higher political figure caught wind that Kroft had tasked the sisters to retrieve the artist, and decided to retrieve the girl when they returned.
