Visara took the letter in turn and opened it up. Growing up in the wild, the barbarian had to take her time to read the fancy script. Sometimes, she had to stop and reread a section. But all the while, her face had a look of disgust at the ambassadors fetishes.

She folded the letters back up and handed them back to Gweyn. The red head shook her head.

"What the hell. There are people out there that like this shit? Sick!"

At this point, the half dragon hoped the Grand Marshal would run the sick man out of town. Still shaking her head, she did smirk at the thought of seeing the woman's expression.

"Aye, let's go and see how our patron reacts."

Visara made ready and headed for the door of the slaughter house. The sisterhood was on the move again.

Gweyn averted her eyes.

It went without saying that an evening with Narissa would have been far preferable to sex with a man. Scooping out her own eyeballs with a rusted spoon would have been preferable to that. Yet she didn’t dare agree and give Narissa ideas. She made a vague noise instead, nodding.

She shook her head.

“Did he truly not think these letters could fall into the wrong hands? Amazing. I imagine it was his mistress who sold them.”

They would probably never know. Gweyn folded the letters again and put them away, then followed Narissa and Visara out of the slaughterhouse. She took care to close and lock it securely behind them. Then they left and headed out to Citadel Volshyenek, taking a circuitous route there. She did not want to be followed.

Narissa shrugged with a mischievous smile, “Who can say how far the stupidity of men who think with their cocks can go? Mayhap it is a mystery that we man never truly solve.”

With her sisters, she had departed the slaughterhouse, leaving it locked up once more. They slipped through the side street and noted their little spies watching over the place. With nothing amiss, they had continued onwards into Midland and merged in with the pedestrian traffic on Harborview Boulevard. They turned off on side street to cut over to Warehouse Way to see if anyone was following them.

After a while they turned left on Guard Street and walked the last few blocks to the gate of Citadel Volshyenek.

The three sisters approached the Guard’s fortress and were recognized by the duty sergeant. The sentries at Citadel Volshyenek were even the same ones on watch from the day before. Explaining that they were reporting back to Field Marshal Cressida Kroft, was all it took gain entrance once more and a few minutes later the trio was escorted into Field Marshal Kroft’s office by a corporal to find a clerk waiting inside.

The Field Marshal only made them wait a few minutes in the company of the escorting corporal and a clerk for company. When she did arrive, the woman looked to be busy as usual and had a bit of surprise on her expression at first. But it vanished quickly and she made her way around to her chair behind her desk and signed the dispatch on it. After sealing it with wax, she handing it to the corporal and bid him to deliver it.

Kroft motioned for the three women to sit and asked, “I presume you have news, yes?”

“Yes,” Gweyn said.

She took a seat when the marshal indicated for them to do so, once the door was closed and they were alone with Kroft. Gweyn waited for her sisters to sit as well, then offered up the sheaf of letters.

“Letters. From Amprei to a lover.”

She paused, shrugging.

“They are not, however, any proof of illicit deals, merely of personal matters he will likely not wish to be made public. However, I believe they will be enough to blackmail him into not taking actions that will harm Korvosa.”

It was blackmail, and Gweyn had no problems calling it such. If Kroft chose to go through with the blackmail anyway, it was a far different thing than having proof of actual wrongdoing. It made Kroft no better than Amprei in Gweyn’s eyes, but she didn’t condemn the marshal for that. Some people were bad people, like herself and her sisters. However, if Kroft did blackmail Amprei, she could not really claim to be a good person after this, and denying one’s true nature was actually worse in Gweyn’s eyes.

“Take a look for yourself,” she said.

Narissa sat down and had a gleam in her eye as she awaited the reaction of the Field Marshall to the contents. She thought the information was scandalous enough to do the job of politically removing the ambassador.

She added, “It is possible the man might relish the exposure if he is the true sexual deviant that those letters indicate. If that is the case, mayhap some stern methods might be necessary to rid Korvosa of this problem?” she asked with an arched eyebrow.

She did not want to reveal her private desires to simply hunt the bastard down in his home and bash his skull in, but left the request open for interpretation in case Kroft was looking to offer alternative where it would be possible to get slightly carried away and remove the scum from the city by spilling his blood.

Field Marshal Cresida Kroft read the letters quickly, her cheeks flushing as she blushed. Shaking her head she folded them back up and handed them to the clerk, saying, "Lock those in the safe for now."

Turning to the trio of women seated before her she continued, "Thank you. I think those should provide enough leverage if necessary. Hopefully it will not come to that. And," she met eyes with Narissa, "I do not think we shall need extraordinary measures to make things politically strained."

"I have an extra reward for you." She gestured for the clerk to go get it.

A moment later the clerk returned without the letters in hand, but a sack instead. He handed it to Gweyn at Kroft's approving nod. She said, "50 platinum coins for your assistance."

She stood and continued, "Things are beginning to return to normal in the city. For the moment at least. For now, I have no further work for you."

"Mayhap that could change in a few days or weeks. Where should I send word if something comes up?"

Gweyn accepted the extra reward with a very polite inclination of her head.

“Thank you,” she said, gravely. “As for contacting us the future, please send word to Three Rings Tavern.”

She remembered how vehemently Narissa had reacted to the idea of the marshal finding out where they were truly staying. They could not risk having the Guard knocking on Pontia’s door.

However, they could go to the Three Rings Tavern, and pay the proprietor a good coin to take and keep messages for them. Then, they could check in daily without anyone having to know where they were actually staying. It was a rather clever idea of Narissa’s, one that was most welcome, considering how delicate their situation was and how many schemes they were personally juggling.

She paused.

“There is just one more thing, if I might ask you something…” Gweyn hesitated a moment, then frowned. “Have you met Amprei before? What does he look like?”

Narissa glanced at Gweyn with an arched eyebrow, curious as to where her sister was going with the last question. She had not been considering any plans for taking action against Amprei… at least not without a good reason or significant gold for their trouble.

She was tempted to also ask where they might find the sexual deviant, but held her peace. She did not know what Gweyn had in mind and if she was planning something they did not want Kroft to be privy to, she did not want to tip their hand.

Narissa figured they could always look for the ambassador at Eel’s End or get Amprei’s home address from Barvasi if they wanted it bad enough.

Field Marshal Kroft nodded, “Yes, I can leave word for you there or send a messenger. The owner knows me and will pass along word if I ask.”

She came around the desk as it appeared the trio of women was nearly done and replied, ”I have met the man a couple of times at official functions. I cannot say I like the man… and after reading of his sexual tastes, I do not forward to seeing him again soon while those images in my head persist.”

She had a disgusted look and continued, “He has a typically Chelish demeanor and features… but I suppose that does not really help to distinguish him. He has dark hair, not long, and trimmed goatee. He is not a very tall man, actually quite slender.”

Visara kept her peace as the sisterhood handed over the letters to the field marshal. The red head enjoyed watching the expression on the older woman's face the letters were reviewed. Indeed, this ambassador was a sick man.

Visara gave Gweyn a questioning look as well. Perhaps her sister had an idea of cornering the ambassador as well. More likely, though, it to keep an eye out for the fellow in case they crossed paths with him.

With their business concluded and reward collected, Visara was ready to depart the office and head back to the Pontia's.

Gweyn thought about that. She had hoped for more detail, but understood that Marshal Kroft was not really in the business of describing sexual deviants down to the last mole. She understood why the woman would not want to linger on details.

She nodded.

“Thank you for indulging my curiosity.”

She glanced at the others, who seemed ready to go.

“If that is all, we will be going now. We will be glad to work with you again. Please send word if you find you have need of our services.”

Narissa got to her feet and gave Kroft a nod in farewell with an enigmatic smile, "Until we me again, Field Marshall." It was hard to know exactly what fantasy was running through the fiendish woman's thoughts.

With her sisters looking to leave, she followed them out of the office with Kroft's dismissal. There was little need to say anything more to her or her men as they exited the stronghold of the Guard. She and her sisters had a professional air about them and they had proven to be deadly troubleshooters so the peons had to know their standing with regards to the trio.

Crossing the courtyard to the gate was quick enough and a few moments they were through to the street, feeling less constrained to be upon their best behavior.

With the Guard no longer within earshot, she looked at her sisters with an arched eyebrow, "Well? Shall we go relax for a bit before dinner?"

Visara felt better once there were out of the office and back on the street. She always had to watch her tongue and actions when in the presence of the Field Marshal, less she give the woman commander the wrong impression. It would not do to offend the patronage of the cities’ guard. Not when the sisterhood was benefiting from the relationship.

At any rate, the sisterhoods errands and tasks were completed for the day. They had time to relax.

“Aye, sounds good. “

The barbarian figured she would find a place to stretch her wings. They had been furled up all day and probably could use a work out.

The trio made their way back to Pontia’s, taking their and checking for tails.

The sisters arrived at Pontia’s inn, satisfied they had not been followed. They split up once there, attending to their own business and enjoying some quiet time to themselves, to pursue their own interests, be they exercise, reading, or…other things.

They met that evening in their quiet corner. A fire roared in the hearth. They had full steaming mugs and plates of hearty stew. It was raining outside and quite cozy.

Gweyn sat at the table across from her sisters, hands wrapped around her mug.

“There is something that I have been wanting to bring up,” she said, after a moment.

She glanced around, out of reflex, but the patrons were few, and no one was sitting nearby, or paying them any attention.

She turned back to Narissa and Visara.

“The little dragon in the cage. It spoke to me. Telepathically. It is quite intelligent, actually, and would like to be free. I promised to help it. I was wondering if I could ask the two of you to help me find a way to free it from Barvasi’s imprisonment.”

She let her gaze settle on first on Visara, then Narissa.

“A dragon should not be a slave or prisoner.”
