Knocking the javelin aside with her sword Visara grins mischievously at the fresh orc. Visara then moves quickly and deftly up next to the orc, whipping her greatsword out in a sudden strike. The suddenness and strength catches the orc by surprise as the blade slips unimpeded past the creature’s readied falchion. The orc’s head is then cleaved in half horizontally in a spray of blood and brains as the greatsword connects. Visara says with pouty expression as she watches the body slump to the ground, “Aww, you broke too soon….”

Narissa grips her ranseur with two hands again while she flies over her next victim like an angel of death.

Using distance in the air to reach down with her longer weapon, she thrusts the point into the offending orc in the chest, ripping the barbed head back out again in a spray of blood. Hovering momentarily as the strike stopped her forward momentum, she can see the bloody hole of ripped flesh. Realizing that the fatal wound, but the orc's ferocity will leave him to fight on until the blood loss is too great, she crones seductively, "Not today, lover. I think you are already done for."

There are more human and dwarven cries of victory, the caravan guards must be winning down the line.

The staggered orc realizes he cannot reach the flying woman, "Fook off, bitch! Kill da otha wun." So he moves towards Visara, not quite able to reach her moving through the bushes holding his falchion with two hands as blood is draining out from the mangled flesh from Narissa's attack.

One more orc warrior comes charging around the north side of the wagon and hurls a javelin at the shapeshifted werehound, but the shaft flies right by her as she casually lifts her arm wielding the rapier a few inches to let point pass harmlessly beneath her elbow. He puts both hands on his curved blade and cries, "Cummon mutt! Take yer head off, I do"

Gweyn watched the flame-haired woman bisected the orc’s head, taking it off neatly just below its ears. The top half flew off, like a lost helmet, spilling grey matter onto the ground and over the body, which stood for a moment before slumping.

It was impressive.

Likewise, the other woman had grown sinister black wings and now flew above the battlefield, commanding it skillfully. Her blow to the orc in front of her staggered him badly.

It seemed the women who had been walking vanguard with her that morning were far more powerful than she’d realized. Gweyn understood about keeping secrets.

She did not pause long to reflect on the revelations, instead loping forward to close with yet another orc who sought to challenge her. His warcry was hardly intimidating. She howled thrust her rapier at his side, managing to score a light blow across his ribs. However the spell that was on her tongue faded and burned out too soon.

“Oh you want to play too? " Visara taunts at the bleeding orc coming through the bushes. Visara takes steps towards the orc, and whirls her greatsword in a wide overhand chop. The blade comes crashing down past the upheld falchion and sinks deeply into the orc’s shoulder and torso. The force of the blow forces the now dead orc to his knees as he breaths his last breath. Visara then wrenches her greatsword free flinging the blood off the blade. “And one more for the slaughter, ” Visara mutters while looking at the last orc standing.

Narissa smiles as the dragon lady once again cuts down the dying orc, Stab and slash, stab and slash, a wonderful dancing couple we make.

Focusing on the last threat, she grins wickedly with approval as the shapeshifting hound has set her victim up for an exposed strike from the opposite side. She wings down a bit lower and thrusts the head of her ranseur right through the last orc raider's back, the bloody tip poking out from his stomach. The fatal wound isn't enough to kill him outright but he is a goner none the less.

With that smile of joy over the carnage she has wrought, Narissa yanks the head of her polearm back out in a splatter of blood with entrails half hanging out from the wound. The stench is not the pleasant smell of fresh blood, as the small blades tore open the orc's intestines, "Well, sorry about that, lover. I missed slightly or you would already be lying in post coital ecstasy." However her taunting is lost on the likes of orcs and she wishes that their foes had been more worthy and appreciative of her love making.

The sounds of battle are tapering off among the rest of the caravan. Victory is almost certain and the last orc surely realizes this, but he is a dead warrior already and he knows that too.

"Fookin mongel dog bitch!" he cries from blood flecked lips, making one last effort to take a foe with him. Gweyn parries the heavier curved blade aside without much difficulty. The staggering orc can only look into her eyes and hope that is death will come quickly now that he failed to connect.

Narissa remarks in a sweet voice, just loud enough for her fighting companions to hear, "Let us just back off a pace or two and watch him bleed to death. He deserves to suffer a bit these last few moments. Besides, he is the last of the playthings." The mischievous smile on her face clearly shows she would enjoy the brief moments.

Gweyn’s muzzle curled.

She cast a brief sideways glance at Narissa, flicking one ear at the winged woman’s suggestion. In Gweyn’s mind the orcs were straightforward foes, if somewhat foolish. She would take no pleasure in watching them suffer, and to her, it seemed unnecessary.

She stabbed her rapier at the orc instead, moving to finish him. Her blade ran him through, cleanly, and she saw the life flicker and fade from his eyes as he slumped to the ground, blood soaking into the dirt underneath him.

As the last orc raider falls silent in death, the only one of your foes alive is the half-orc sorceress, still bleeding out. But even that ceases to be, upon closer examination, she is now a pale corpse as well.

The sounds of battle, the ringing of steel and war cries, have been replaced with cheers and jeers at the few remaining raiders retreating into the rugged terrain back at the main body of the caravan. There are a few sobs of pain and calls for healers in the immediate aftermath drifting to your position.

Here at the vanguard area, you three are pretty much alone for the moment as the closest driver is dead and a there are a few more bodies of victims left by the foes you recently killed. But, any moment you can expect someone to come forward and check on the situation.

Narissa settles to the ground and her wings disappear, back to whence they materialized from. She looks briefly at the shifted hound and wonders if she said too much, now that the lust from battle has started to subside and she reflects on some of the things she inadvertently said in the heat of battle. The violence always arouses her, but there is no one currently present to satisfy those urges. She remembers a time when immediately following a good battle, her lover Worang would ravish her while her loins were stirred. But those days are gone for now and she moves to examine that cunt spellslinger to ensure she is dead too.

Satisfied that the threat is over, Narissa cleans the orc remains off her weapon and remarks conversationally while they are yet alone, "Visara, dear, it would seem that your wish for excitement came true today. These fools would have done better for a subtle approach under darkness. We could have made an arrangement perhaps. But you know fucking orcs, just kill everyone and everything. No panache."

Narissa glances back to Gweyn, trying to take careful note of her reactions to the situation. She is now reminded that there was a certain lycanthrope that arrogant priest Cerec said she should try to find. It could very well be, that the strands of fate in the great tapestry have brought her to that very woman without her realizing it until now. Hextor would be laughing at her if that were true.

Re: WERE: Prologue - From Skelt to Korvosa

“Hmmphff,” mutters Visara as the last orc falls to the ground dead. The combat had lasted just long enough for her blood to get going, and now she’s disappointed that it was over. And the consolation of watching the last orc bleed to death was cut short by an act of mercy by the half-woman, half dog that was Gweyn. Visara stares at the lycanthrope for second, deciding rather or not she should run her sword through it because of that act. But then she turns away with a sigh, thinking that Gweyn is probably the person that Narissa is looking for. It would not be good to be slaying potential recruits.

Visara answers her companion, “Indeed. Although straightforward and foolish as the brutes are, they usually prove entertaining to fight because they don’t know when to die.” Visara then lets out a sigh and pouts a bit, “Now the rest of the trip to Korvosa is going to be uneventful and boring.” Nodding in the direction of Gweyn, “Well maybe not completely boring,” Visara says to herself with mischievous grin as she thinks about how Gweyn would make an excellent opponent if she turns out to not be Narissa’s lycanthrope.

Visara turns away and proceeds to clean herself a bit. She begins by wiping some of the orc blood of her face and arms with her fingers and licking it. Making a grimace at the taste, she thinks to herself, Ack, forgot how nasty orc blood is. With the remaining blood, Visara traces an old tribal pattern of victory on her cheeks and forehead. Visara takes pride in wearing the blood of her slain foes, something that her old tribal village had long forgotten. She then casts around for something to clean the blood off. Seeing a cloak on one of the corpses, Visara tears it and proceeds to use as rag to clean her weapons and armor.

Gweyn stared back at the two women, watching them silently. She took in all they said and did without comment, the expression on her canine face fixed, perhaps wary, like a beast being coaxed to eat from a human hand.

There was another call from the caravan; one furry ear twitched. Then Gweyn’s features began to blur, shifting from tawny fur back to human flesh. The sound of muscle and sinew bending and re-arranging itself was audible as a low, raw grinding sound, the popping of joints.

When the change was complete, Gweyn regarded the pair out of newly human eyes. Her hair was straight and blond. Her eyes were grey. Her expression was still wary, but then she coolly knelt and used the dead orc’s tunic to clean her blade.

“Bloodlust,” she said.

Her accent was thick and lilting, marking her as a native of Ustalav. Her voice was low.

“Even wolves have more sense, and more forethought about their hunts. These creatures know nothing but slaughter and pillage.”

She shrugged, glancing down at the body.

“And death,” she added.

Gweyn paused and rose to her full height once more, sheathing her rapier.

“I trust that we will not speak to the others about…” She trailed off, looking meaningfully at Narissa, then pantomimed wings. “The things we’ve just witnessed about each other.”

Narissa pauses to look Gweyn straight in the eyes a few moments before replying, gauging her response.

"I will not be telling these fools in the caravan anything of the sort. What they don't know, they cannot reveal and silencing the lot of them is perhaps a bit much for just three of us. As much Visara might want to, leaving a trail of corpses from Skelt to Korvosa is not in our best interest. And my own physical uniqueness would be remembered as nearly as much as yours, so I shall not be speaking of it. In fact, as of this moment, I know naught of which you speak."

The matter settled, she kneels down to check for things of use among these raiders, remarking to herself, "They are not paying enough for this shit. Perhaps this dead bitch has some interesting possessions." She finds a few gems and coins, but nothing else remarkable except an unusual beret that was on the half-orc's head. It doesn't appear to match the heavy duty wilderness clothes and cold weather outfits that all the raiders were wearing. Standing back up she keeps it clutched in her hand.

Noticing something else, Narissa points to a finely crafted tower shield that was on the back of one of the orcs and wonders aloud, "That's a well made wooden shield, definitely not your usual orcish craftsmanship. It looks to be elvish maybe. Gweyn, I happened to notice you were possibly working some spells during the fray. Are you capable of detecting arcane auras?"

“We have an understanding,” Gweyn said, shortly.

She dismissed the issue a moment later and glanced at the two items that Narissa had pointed out, eyeing them narrowly. She nodded.

“Probably looted from other victims on the trail. I can’t imagine orcs doing much knitting.”

Gweyn looked over her shoulder, back in the direction of where the other corpses slowly cooled.

“Yes, I can detect such auras. Let’s loot the rest of the bodies, and gather everything in one pile, and I will check all at once. Then we can keep the other valuables to sell and divide their value evenly between the three of us.”

She looked first to Narissa, then to Visara. The metallic scent of orc blood was heavy due to the markings the tall woman had painted on her face. War paint, Gweyn thought.

“That is fair.”
