Rebel’s dark brown eyes widened as he realized the nice lady had run off without him! He ran quickly around the dead monsters and rushed up to her side. He made a soft, scolding whine to caution her not to rush off unexpectedly when he was supposed to protect her. He didn’t want anyone to think he wasn’t doing his job!

"Right," comments Rahn as he huffs after the others. As he moves, the cleric draws another javelin to be able to throw.

Before Gothrom can really respond, another giant appears and answers it for him.

This ogre looks more like a big demonic human. It has green skin, dark hair, and a pair of short ivory horns protruding from its forehead. The eyes are dark with striking white pupils, and its teeth and claws are black. He is wearing a chain shirt and carrying a large greatsword in hand with a slung longbow.

"Oy! What the fuck's going on out here!" This one is a bit more articulate and has a better command of the Common tongue.

Gothrom responds to Rahn, "It looks like the lovechild of an ogre and a cow!" He recalls Ogres sometimes stealing cattle from nearby human settlements and bringing them up into the mountains, but he had always assumed that it was for eating. "I can't see our wizard!" He attempts to peer past the creature, looking for signs of the wizard or of recent stuggles within his domain.

Hearing the creature's words, Gothrom glares into it's eyes, scowling. "We just butchered a bunch of dumb ogres", he taunts, placing his shield in front of him. "And yer next!" He takes a step to the side, giving him companions a chance to fire their missles, then charges up the stairs with his shield up before him.

Phaeral drew an arrow.

He could have followed after Gothrom and gotten a better angle on the ogre, but decided to hold his ground, so he would not get in the way of his companions, particularly Ashleigh, who had the power to sicken with her eldritch energy.

As he pulled back the bowstring, he studied the strange, demonic ogre. It clearly had a different look than the others, eerie and otherworldly. Its black eyes made it look like the devils that had butchered Father Darrenson. Perhaps it was some sort of halfbreed.

His mind raced as he tried to remember anything he had possibly heard of before that was anything like this creature. Perhaps some of the senior warriors in his village had mentioned something in passing.

He loosed the arrow, watching its trajectory critically in the few split seconds he had before it reached its target. It did not look like a good enough shot.

Ashleigh invokes the crackling energy around her fist and hurls it past Gothrom. The eldritch blast flies in through the doorway and burns the ogre with its sickening purplish tendrils spreading around the charred wound in the creature's shoulder.

"Is it wise of Gothrom to block the doorway? It could easily back away with its reach and we would have no chance of aiding him."

She moves around to take the path up towards the door to help Gothrom from closer in.

Phaeral recognizes the creature as an Ogre Mage, a demonic spell casting giant. It has resistance to spells and can regenerate damage that is not caused by fire or acid. The creature is known to be quite a handful to deal with.

As the new enemy shows itself inside the wizard's tree house, Rahn curses. That could mean the group was too late and the wizard could be dead.

"Hold on Gothrom, I'm coming!" Rahn shouts to the dwarf as he crashes thru the think underbrush to hustle up behind the dwarf or as close as he could get.

True to Phaeral's warning, the Ogre Mage steps back from the dwarf and extends a large hand. White magical energy extends in a cone from the creature, chilling Gothrom to the bone as it blasts past him to wash over Rahn and Phaeral as well.

"Impudent dwarf!" The ogre's taunt spits out the word like a racial epithet.

"Come inside, it is cold out there. Ha, ha, HA!" The spell-casting brute appears to be unconcerned at being cornered inside the wizard's tower.

Gothrom hefts his shield up over his face as the cone of cold washes over him, significantly reducing the spell's effectiveness. "Ya don't know who yer dealing with!", he growls to the Ogre Mage. His extremities may be frozen, but his blood is beginning to boil in his veins as he feels his rage trying to overtake him. Not yet...

Wary of the Ogre Mage's reach, Gothrom attempts to push into the Wizard's tower, swinging his axe at the creature while keeping his shield up in front of him.

Phaeral grimaced as the blast of cold air washed over him, chilling him to the bone. He shuddered and hoped that the spell had not damaged his bowstring, rendering it too brittle. He would simply have to shoot and hope that the enchantments on the black bow also served to protect its string.

He gasped and shuddered. He wasn’t feeling very well.

Quickly, he stepped to the side and shot another arrow through the doorway. This time the shot looked good.

Hearing the advice from Phaeral, Ashleigh considers it pretty lucky that she managed to wound the demonic ogre at all. She advances up the path to the door, pulling out a flask of alchemist's fire.

Rebel ran to catch up with the nice lady. There wasn’t much room on the path, so he ran up right behind her, ready to spring forward if necessary. He could hear the sounds of battle from inside the building, and the growling and bad smell of a monster.
