Robin nodded solemnly.

“Yep. Real un-u-su-al.” He paused. “Creepy as shit, more like.”

He had interpreted the man’s words somewhat differently than Zak had – rather than thinking that the man was doubting their account of the story, he thought that he was merely floating an opinion about the strangeness of the situation itself, and fishing for more information.

And it was unusual; it was unthinkable. Anyone who knew anything about supermutants would think so.

He looked at the lieutenant.

“You done herd of this kinda thing before?”

Mordecai barked in laughter. Perhaps not a wise thing to do, but he found the question comical.

"First hand account? Damn super mutant tossed me around like a sack full of grain. If it wasn't for sliding the wreck car, and their flimsy hoods, I wouldn't be talking to you."

The scout's was a bit emotional to get the point across. Indeed, he was very lucky that he didn't have any broken bones from that incident.

"Took a grenade and some well place shots to down the fucker."

"As the boys said, you can check with Lawyer's road if you don't believe us."

The conversation his traveling companions imparted to the Enclave officer; filled in some gaps about the skirmish with the raiders.

Givens added nothing further to the discussion.
Upon hearing about the grenade use; he privately wished he had a couple for such emergencies.

Otherwise, he awaited the Enclave officer to speak.

Lt Brockmann nodded at the frank admission of Mordecai and the boys concerning the super mutants. He seemed to show that he believed your account, but perhaps he was just putting on a political face.

"Yes, we will do that." remarked the Enclave Lieutenant on checking out the Lawyers Road.

After a moment of thought, the LT decided he wasn't going to get much more information from you.

"Well, I don't have any more questions. A good day to you."

With the rest of the Enclave soldiers done with their business, the group formed up. The thud-thud of the helo could be heard as it was returning to pick up the squad. You could see the machine approaching a clear spot 100 yards or so from the outpost. After a minute, LT Brockmann now helmeted leads his squad out of the outpost. You have a feeling that it might be the last you have seen of the Lt, especially if the residents of Lawyers Road divulge more than they should.

Now that the soldiers were gone, one of the outpost residents approached you.

The man had long, messy hair and scruffy facial hair. He wore typical wastelander garb and walked with a bit of a limp. He looked to be middle aged. As he neared, the man broke into a wide grin.

"Mordecai! How you been!" He said with a arms wide in greeting, as he shook the scouts hand.

"Oh, were are my manners, " the wasterlander said as he finished greeting the scout.

"I'm Frank Cook, but call me Frankie. The tin men give you any trouble?" he said referring to the recently departed Enclave soldiers.

Zack watched the helo land and load up with fascination. He wanted one of those as well as powered armor. Of course he was not willing to put up with Lieutenant Douche to get them.

As an after thought, he was not sure if they hadn't fucked up with the Enclave. The soldier had left them alone, but steering them to Lawyer's Road was going to lead them back to himself and Rob once they learned about removing something from the supermutant's head. But it was too late now as he watched the helo depart.

Zack offered his hand to Frank and introduced himself, "Zak."

"Do ya git visitors like them a lot?"

Watching the Enclave squad leave, Givens was a little envious of their technology and the options it gave them to explore. 'if only they could find her for me. I miss her.'

Steeling his resolve he turned to the one called Frankie as he introduced himself to Mordecai.

He waited to be introduced by Mordecai, extending his hand in greeting, "Givens. Was hoping we might stay the night, trade a bit and move on 'morrow."
"Tin men want lots, give little, it seems."

"We from Lawyers Road."
"They get some raider action and hoping you folk, been spared their coming."

"Frankie, " Mordecai smiled as he shook the mans hand. The two had a friendship. The kind forged where they once pulled each other out of some fire. The outpost leader was a good person and friend.

The scout nodded as Given's gave an explanation. It didn't look like this outpost had been hit by the raiders. Perhaps it was because they took too many causalities at Lawyer's Road.

"Right, As Given's said. Lawyer's Road got hit. THe outpost itself held, but several of the homesteads were raided and burned."

"Any idea who this Professor is that the Enclave are looking for? I assume that was what their interview was about?"

“Rob,” Robin said, with a short nod to Frankie.

He had held off on greeting the man, watching Mordecai carefully for his reaction. Just because the man was friendly to Mordecai didn’t necessarily mean that Mordecai would be friendly back. It was hard to know who to trust. Robin didn’t fully trust anyone, but at least Zak and the others were known qualities. This man could have been anyone, but the fact that Mordecai seemed to like him well enough put Robin somewhat at ease.

He studied the man. Frankie looked scruffy, but not as scruffy as Givens. The limp could have been from anything, but somehow Robin got the impression the man had once been a fighter or warrior of some sort, and had gotten some ugly wound.

“Those guys come ‘round here often?”

"Hardly." replied Frankie as the question of the Enclave soldiers. His expression had soured a bit.

"They just swooped down in that damned flying machine of theirs. Think they own the wasteland. Anyway, gathered every one and asked them questions about super mutants and the Professor."

The man shook his head.

"At least they didn't lock us up or shoot us or the like. Unlike what raiders have been know to do. Speaking of which, we've been lucky. No attacks yet, but we are preparing. Folks are scared, and the tin men didn't help."

"And the Professor. All we know is just rumors. Some crazy old dude out there in wastes known for tinkering with technology. Not much more than that."

The wastelander gestured for you into the outpost.

"Well, belated, but welcome to Mink Hill"

Zak sort of grumbled to Robin beside him, "Hell yeah. If i had flyin' machine an' power'd armor, I'd fuckin' rule the Wasteland too."

He had not been talking to Frankie and he nodded as they received a welcome. He was ready to continue on into the settlement proper. He made another comment under his breath, "We probably should get the hell out of here as soon as possible. Get what we came for and keep moving."

They obviously had not needed to warn the settlement and Givens likely needed to ask around a bit about his wife. For himself he looked around for obvious signs of trading going on. he had some stuff to barter with and was always on the lookout for something better or useful. Facing super-mutants, they needed grenades.

Givens noted the rumour aspect of the Professor mentioned by Frankie; looks like Lawyer Road would get a Enclave visit with lots of questions.
"Any news from up da road. We be headin' da way in da mornin' "

"Mighty good of yous, to let us stay da night." Givens replied as he surveyed Mink Hill.
"Yous have a place for da tethered beasts 'n trading?"
"Don't wanta cause trouble bein' in wrong spot and all."

“Yeah. We don’t want those Enclave guys to come back and start asking us about the supermutant.”

Robin muttered to Zak, sweeping his gaze over the outpost around them. The people who actually lived here seemed friendly enough. Really friendly, in fact, but it probably helped that they had Mordecai with them, and weren’t really strangers because of that. But still, the Enclave was another story.

“Maybe we can find some good stuff to trade, though. These people seem more technologically advanced that the other places we’ve been.”

"Thanks Frankie." the scout said grateful to the outpost defacto leader.

The scout hung back to catch up with his friend, and let the three of you continue on into the outpost. It is evident the two have a friendship.

"I'll catch up in a bit," he yelled after the three of you.

Mint Hill Outpost - Evening

The three of you entered the outpost proper. You already knew that it was some kind of gas station from checking it out with the binoculars. Now up close and inside the outposts walls, you could see that it was large. IT could have easily serviced a dozen cars at once. The pumps themselves are long gone, replaced with makeshift shacks. There were probably about a dozen to dozen and half residents and refugees alike within the walls. Quite a few were armed with cobbled together and salvaged weapons. Nothing that would have stopped the Enclave from getting what they wanted by force. On the flip side, there were enough armaments to make a raider think twice.

Off to one corner of the outpost, Givens could see a place to tether the brahmin. There were a few other of the beasts already tied up. Likely from some of the local refugees.

Along the back wall, you had a better look at the wind turbines. There were three of them, the size of young brahmin. They looked to have salvaged and cobbled together. Thick cables lead to some kind of energy storage and use of the residents.

Looking around, you could tell that perhaps some of the residents or refugees would be willing to trade.

Zak had a natural curiosity for all things mechanical and wandered over to take an even closer look at the wind turbines. He did not touch, mainly because he did not want to be mistaken for a saboteur. In addition to just seeing how they set it up, he was looking for ways he could improve their setup.

He had used his expertise for bartering before and would rather make transactions that way instead of using caps or giving away his salvaged parts.

"I wonder if anyone has some good salvage," he said following the power cables. He figured they must have makeshift tavern or pub established.
