THe helmet of the power armor hide the soldiers expression. It would be impossible to judge how your conversation with the man was going.

"Givens and Mordecai. What about the two boys?" he replied.

As he waited for you to answer, the solider must have signal to his comrades.

A helmet less soldier was making his way over to you.

Givens shrugged, "Dem Boys, Robyn and Zak."
"They knows better to speak around grown ups."

Noting the coming helmet less soldier.
"So we allowed a place to rest and trade the night."
"or is ya bossman gonna tell us keep walking to the next settlement?"

You couldn't tell if the soldier at the gate acknowledged the teenager's names or not. By this time the helmet less soldier arrived to see what was going on. He was a man that looked to middle-aged, with close cropped dark hair and a remarkabley manicured mustache. There was an air of arrogance about him.

The other solider relayed your names, and something was said about you being spotted from the helo. It showed that he was in charge of the small squad of Enclave Soliders.

"That depends on how co-operative you are willing to be, " replied the dark haired man as he looked pointedly at Givens.

"You must be the group spotted by our helo not too long ago." The last was stated as a matter of fact as the man looked you over. He barely glanced at Zak and Robin, focusing more on the adults.

"I am Lieutenant Brockman of the Enclave. We are interviewing the residents of this outpost, looking for information for a man known as the Professor. We have reason to believe he is connected to an uptick in super mutants in the area."

"Do you know of him?"

Givens can roll a local knowledge - TN 6 to see if he heard of the man.

Givens shrugged, "Da name, not one I be know'in."
"Seen no super mutants either. Just raider scum."

"Saw your flying machine too. Spooked me brahmin bad."
Givens avoided the words he wanted to add about the flying machine and its low pass.

Instead, knowing the enclave officer was seeking more and to ease the fellows concern,
"Da last place we passed, just had a raider attack."
"Da may be linked?"

With the extra information given freely. Givens left his words hang, so Lieutenant Brockman of the Enclave could draw his own conclusions.

Zak leaned over to Robyn and muttered under his breath, "That bit about the professor sounds interesting. Do you suppose that guy they are looking for tinkers inside the mutant's skulls?"

The teenager was guessing at the connection, mainly based upon logical assumptions. But with the activity lately, the two pieces of evidence fit together in that explanation. While he was intellectually excited to learn something, he was not about to interrupt the conversation by speaking to the officer in charge.

“Could be,” Robin murmured back.

He had been thinking around the same lines. Now that he considered it, it made more sense that it was some rogue operator doing such things, rather than an organized force. The Enclave seemed disciplined and well-organized. Many of its members would be uncomfortable with such experimentation. Not from an ethical standpoint, of course, but from a practical one. If the supermutant broke free of control, everyone would be at risk.

“Maybe he hired out his services to some raiders on the fringes, made them pay for his supplies. Or maybe they’re sponsoring him.”

He whispered all of this to Zak, his mouth scarcely moving under his bandanna.

Mordecai hadn't heard of this Professor fellow either. In the back of his mind, he wondered if he would have told the Enclave if he did know.

"Don't know of any Professor either. He a new guy?"

The scout was a bit relieved that it didn't appear the soldiers were looking for any Vaulters. But it did worry him about the implications of some one named the Professor. It didn't seem the no nonsense officer was going too interrogative.

Lt. Brockmann frowned at your lack of knowledge of the Professor, but controlled his disappointment.

Robin and Zak's comments were too low to be heard, and apparently the Enclave was apt to ignore the teenagers at any rate.

"Well, that is disappointing...We are hoping to have a word with the Professor."

But he did take a keen interest in the mention of a raiders attack and the link.

"Could be. Aside of the attack itself, anything unusual about it? Do they raiders seemed organized?"

He made no mention of the helo's effect on your pack animals.

"Well, I knows the raiders die just as easy as any other man." Givens replied,
"Arrived after da attack. Met a few licking their wounds, so I helped them off to the deep black."

"Raiders organized?" Givens looked a bit worried, "Da be a bad thought for all of us if it happens."

"All I know is dem raiders take me woman."
"Any raider I find, is likely be dead real pronto after having a few words." Givens face betrayed some of the pain about the memory of his wife.

Steeling himself to continue the conversation with Lt. Brockmann, "So who be dis Professor?" Givens queried before turning towards Mordecai, "Ya notice anything special about dem raiders?"

Zak nearly blurted out a sarcastic remark about what had happened back at Lawyer's Road. The not talking gambit was starting to get him antsy and he sort of shuffled a bit from side to side.

But with the Enclave appearing to be inquiring about something they were also concerned about, he was starting to think maybe they could be on the same side in things.

He muttered a bit louder, so he could be heard by Mordecai and the Lieutenant, "Dey fuckin' looked organized when dey hit Lawyer's Road. Also killed some folks in farmstead around there too."

"Sum crazed mutant was tearin' shit up too. That be purty damned unusual."

Robin’s eyes widened as Zak started to speak. He had adopted a fairly good imitation of Givens’ accent and speech patterns. Robin had noticed that Givens typically dropped ending consonants and ignored articles and pronouns, and misused verb conjugations. The rules of what Givens said and how he said it were hopelessly complex; if Robin were to try it, he had the feeling he would not be able to remember them all and still speak normally and unselfconsciously. It would be extremely awkward. But then again, if he did talk normally, he could easily betray where he was from.

His pulse sped up, and he felt sweat trickle down his back.

But Zak had managed well. And he had pushed the conversation in an interesting direction, one that would hopefully give them more information. That was what they sorely needed.

He drew in a breath.

“Hm,” he attempted, a simple noise of agreement. He nodded at Zak’s assertion. “Dey usually be like pack animals, no?”

Mordecai was inwardly impressed with Robin and Zak's performance. They did a well enough job with there accents that should cover them from the Enclave soldiers. He would have to remember to tell them they did a good job later. When no one was around that would care. It almost made the scout stand out as he seemed to speak proper English. Well...that was how he was raised. Most people who have heard of the scout would remark on this grammar if asked.

The conversation had moved to the raider attack on Lawyer's road. The boys had opened it up about the super mutants. Since they it was in their own interests to find out about the super mutant, the scout thought it was ok to share some of what they saw with the soldiers. At the very least, they could judge from Enclave's reactions.

"Right. As the boys said, the raiders were organized. Nothing like I had seen before. As Givens said, normally they are like pack animals. But these was an organized assault."

"A super mutant working with them was down right scary and a surprise. Damned things are hard to stop."

With the lads and Mordecai chiming in with extra information, Givens waited to see what Lt. Brockmann might reveal or hone in upon.

What Givens knew of the supermutant attacking with the raiders was just a little gossip.

The lads and Mordecai certainly hadn't been forthcoming in what they had experienced or learned from corpse.
But then it wasn't his business to know; at least for now.

Lt Brockmann frowned as the group of you added more information. His interested was definitely piqued by the mention of a super mutant with the raiders.

"THe Professor is a person of interest for the Enclave. Our business is between us and him, once he has been found."

The lieutenant wasn't going to be more forthcoming on that question. Clearly, it was not a matter for him to be sharing.

"Sorry for you loss, " Brockmann said to Givens. But from his tone, he wasn't very empathetic about it.

"But an organized raid, and a super mutant in the assault itself? That strikes me as very odd and suspicious. Do you have a first hand account? Super Mutants are not known for working with any else besides other super mutants."

By this time, you could see the other members of the Enclave squad wrapping up their business with the outpost residents. The residents themselves could be seen drifting about back to their jobs or whatnot.

spoiler: show
I think we are going to need some deception rolls now, if you intend to hide some details while talking. Wasn't sure where the line of questioning was going to go.

Zak stood with his shoulders slumped sullenly with his hands in his pockets. He was not acting since he really was put off by the Lieutenant's questioning their assessment of the attack the day before.

"Okay, iffin ya think tis odd and suspicious fur da raiders ta have a mutant helpin' dem, none my bid'ness."

"But, ya can go check Lawyer's Road and prolly still see da dead raiders and a dead mutant thing. I suppose the mutant could be a really big, ugly guy. But the others said it was a super-mutant so..."

He shrugged not intending to say anything more.
