“I will check the other room while we ponder that question,” Hellsing said.

She closed the door behind her and walked to the other room. It was larger, so she decided to spend more time checking it.

“I think we should throw something into the pool before all of us fully commit to stepping inside the room. That way we can test to see if there is another elemental in the waters before we decide to do anything else.”

She ducked inside the larger room and searched it.

Orekk paused in his walk to answer the question on secret doors.
"Well they could be almost anywhere. Most of the time when you walk by them there are little tell tale signs. Depends on the skill of the craftsmen and engineering of the door."
"A skilled craftsmen can have a secret entrance in the pool."
"I will however continue to keep a look out for them."

Orekk continued to the southern door, checking and listening beyond for potential trouble.
"Southern one first?"

Day 14, 11:48 - The FoundryWhile the others waited outside, the elven scout started looking for items of interest in the ransacked armory. She was too busy looking that she missed the arming dummy in front of her thwacking her with a wooden stick until it impacted her shoulder.

Crying out in surprise, not so much in pain as in shock that the wooden thing was animated. The other could her her cry out, but only Araella actually was in position ot see the animated dummy moving on its own to accost Hellsing.

Hellsing hissed between her teeth, a noise that was more angry than pained. She was angrier at herself than at the construct. She had gotten complacent. Too many rooms with nothing in them. She could have a healthy fear of a carpet or a fountain, but not a simple training dummy.

“An animated object!” she called to the others. She moved back immediately, guarding herself from attack.

In the back of her mind she thought that such precautions meant there might be something valuable within that room, but they could deal with it later. The animated dummy was best dealt with by Morrolan’s deadly spiked chain, or Orekk’s fine morningstar, or even the light mace that Vlad carried as a backup, not her arrows.

“It is a construct! It hits quite hard. Beware!”

Araella, sick and tired of playing the victim, rushes into the room. She brings forth her left arm, raises it into the air, pointing her fingers directly at the animated enemy.

The whites of her eyes turn all black and her hair starts to whip about her head. She shouts out, but in more of a shriek, "lóstrego!" A burst of lightning flies forth towards the creature, surrounding it in sizzling electricity.

To the rescueMorrolan heard the commotion and stared moving into the armory after the sorceress, but ducked back to the hallway as she sent electrical energy flashing around the chamber. He was adept at using some shocking spells too and knew metal armor tended to attract the electricity.

“If that doesn’t work, I will cover your retreat, Araella!” he called with his spiked chain ready to lash out.

After the potentially deadly encounter, the adventurers wasted no time in dealing with the animated arming dummy. The lightning bolt sizzled through the air, charging dust motes even out into the hallway. The crack was extremely loud and echoed throughout the Foundry loud enough to wake the dead… maybe even the undead.

The flash of discharge exploded the wooden dummy into charred kindling and then scorched the stone wall and finally dissipated.

Nothing else in the trashed armory moved.

The reverb tails of the lightning clap fades to silence. "S-s-sorry about the sound.... I suppose I could have saved that for a more formidable foe. The carpet attack was still bothering me.... I think I'm better now though."

“Thank you for your decisive action, Araella,” Hellsing said.

She stepped back into the room, touching her arm where she had been struck. It was tender, and would surely bruise, but she didn’t think anything was broken.

She nodded to Araella.

“You made it easy, and prevented anyone else from being hurt.”

She examined the scorched construct for a moment. Then she shook her head.

“It occurred to me that perhaps that thing was in here for a reason. Perhaps there is some hidden treasure. I will search.”

Hellsing went back to her search, resuming where she had been interrupted. She decided she would check more thoroughly in the space behind where the dummy had been standing.

At the first shout, Vlad had whipped around from glaring at the shallow pool. He then cursed as the others quickly moved back to the room Hellsing was checking out. The swashbuckler felt like they were getting lax again. THe carpet should have been a stark enough warning.

But before Vlad could reach the doorway, Arealla let loose with a spell that resulted in a loud thunderclap. BY the time the dark haired man stopped in the hallway, the remains of the animated practice dummy was all he saw.

"Well damn..." he said slack jawed.

"I missed it. But good job. Think we would have learned our lesson of caution with that animated carpet."

Vlad stepped just inside the doorway and watched as Hellsing finished checking out the room.

With the sudden rush of electricity and the result of a pile of kindling, Orekk nodded, "heavy handed but worth doing right."
He took a moment to mutter a few words and restore Hellsing to full health. He waited to make sure the room had been cleared before going back to the door he had been waiting near, earlier.

Watching, speculatingMorrolan chucked as he stood in the doorway, watching the elven ranger continue her searching now that the animated dummy was blown apart. “Indeed, our sorceress is not messing around anymore with objects that come to life.”

He speculated, “I wonder why such things were left here. Do you suppose they date back to the time of the dwarven stronghold and were leftover parts of the defenses?”

“It looks like no one was able to ransack that bedroom with the rug, but this room was clearly another story.”

“Maybe the dwarves liked a bit of spirit for their weapons training and the dummy was animated to be a practice foe and it has been bored all these years with no job left to do.”

Day 14, 11:49 - The FoundryAfter the dummy was dispatched, the armory was pretty much safe as Hellsing searched the perimeter. It only took a few moments, and she did not find anything of note. The place had been either looted or emptied of usable weaponry and items of interest during the fighting when the orcs broke the stronghold.

Vlad nodded in agreement with Morrolan's assessment. It made sense to the swashbuckler and also made him wonder what other animated objects resided in the stronghold.

"Indeed. Hopefully, this is the last of it. I would hate to have to view every piece of furniture with suspicion for the rest of our exploration."

With Hellsing completing her check out of the room, the dark haired man moved back out into hall and into the room with the pool. He still eyed the water wearly. After the events of the last few hours, he didn't know what to think of the pool. It could be harmless, or waiting to suck his soul.

Vlad waited for the others to enter the room, before asking. "SHould we examine the pool before moving on?"
